When To Plant Lettuce In Perth
A few years ago I came across a guy in the awesome Toowoomba Organic Gardens who had the most jam-packed plot filled with all types of lettuces and leafy greens. I stopped to ask him how he got into growing his own veggies and his answer really shocked me.
He said he worked for a local operation that provides supermarkets with lettuces and other vegetables…and that in his day job he had to wear a hazmat suit and mask because the company sprayed the produce with so many chemicals. What a nightmare.
I’ve always grown my own lettuce since having my own veggie patch, but you can bet that my resolve to keep growing it became a lot stronger after that conversation. The great thing about lettuce is that it can work for most seasons in Perth. I personally think the best time to plant lettuce in Perth is in autumn and in spring when the weather is a little milder. When To Plant Lettuce In Perth | Seedling Tips
Fill up a seedling tray with potting mix (I use REKO trays and Searles potting mix*)
Put a hole in each square and then pop one lettuce seed in each square (1 only, trust me!)
Pat down, sprinkle lightly with water from a watering can (I use Nylex) and put into direct sunlight
A week later seedlings should have popped up
I keep the seedlings in the tray for a whole month to let them get to a good size
