Grow Flower Seedlings In A Few Easy Steps!
If you have ever dreamed of growing your own sunflower field, the reality isn't actually that far out of reach…if you grow your own flower seedlings. I recently worked on a large bee garden project with a school where I supplied over 200 flower seedlings that I grew myself at home. The process was surprisingly simple and surprisingly inexpensive.
I highly recommend growing flower seedlings at home and I’ve had really good success with marigolds, sunflowers, cosmos, zinnia and calendula to name a few. I’ve included the simple steps I followed to grow the trays of flower seedlings and give myself access to hundreds of beautiful flowers-to-be. By the way, each tray of seedlings cost about $10 when you include the tray, potting mix and seeds. Not bad at all!
When I grow flower seedlings, I go all out! Here are the trays of marigold, basil, cosmos and zinnia seedlings I grew this year (above)
How To Grow Flower Seedlings | 5 Tips
Fill up a seedling tray with potting mix (I use REKO trays and Searles potting mix)
Put a hole in each square and then pop one basil seed in each square (1 only, trust me!)
Pat down, sprinkle lightly with water from a watering can (I use Nylex) and put into direct sunlight
A week later seedlings should have popped up
I keep the seedlings in the tray for a whole month to let them get to a good size before planting them in a garden bed or pots
