Growing Marigolds In Brisbane

Growing marigolds in Brisbane = good idea!

This spring/summer I grew a big garden bed full of flowers at my new community garden plot. I divided it between 3 different flowers: zinnias, marigolds and dahlias, and I want to take a moment for the beauty of the marigolds!

Growing marigolds in Brisbane is a great idea because they can thrive out in the full, hot sun situation that is Brisbane from September onwards. I think that for years they have been denigrated or considered a passe sort of flower, but I love that the humble marigold is having a renaissance. I’m really happy with how they turned out!

Growing Marigolds In Brisbane

  • Best time to grow: marigolds like hot weather so anytime from September to April.

  • How many plants needed: I planted about 10 this year, but even 1-2 marigolds will produce many flowers.

  • Growing marigold seedlings: I planted all of marigolds from seed, they can be a little slow to get going at the start, so be patient!

This variety is the French marigold
