Growing Amaranth In Brisbane

Some of the flowers I grew in my Brisbane plot, including the stunning red amaranth

Growing amaranth was not on my bingo card for 2024, but it happened anyway! I planted sunflowers and zinnia in my big garden plot in Brisbane and among those flowers, amaranth just popped up! I think it came from seeds left over in the soil.

At first I tried to pull the amaranth out, but then I got on board and watched as it rocketed way over my head. It’s one of the most interesting flowers I’ve ever grown in my garden, and this time zero effort was required. Highly recommend!

I’ve included some other photos of my volunteer amaranth below. And If you’re looking for other flowers to grow in Brisbane, check out my Seasonal Planting Calendar below too!

The bright red amaranth grew way over my head in my Brisbane garden plot!

I wasn’t planning on growing Amaranth in Brisbane, but I’m so glad it happened!
