When To Plant Zinnia In Australia

Wondering when to plant zinnia flowers in Australia? Spring and summer are the perfect time.

Zinnia is always a flower I recommend growing in Australia because it is one of the few flowers that can really stand up and thrive in full-on Australian heat. For that reason, the best time to plant zinnia in Australia is in spring and summer. I’ve tried planting it before when it was a warm autumn and the flowers did not like it at all!

There are lots of awesome varieties and colours of zinnia, but I love the Oklahoma Salmon variety grown by Floret that has a peachy pink colour and layers of petals, as well as the subtly beautiful Dream Lavender variety you can get at Lambley Nursery.

And if you are looking for other summer flowers to complement zinnias, you may like my Seasonal Calendar below which includes a number of other options for the season. Happy planting!

The zinnias I grew in my Brisbane backyard (above) grew almost as tall as my head! They also attract in gorgeous pollinators like this heavenly blue Butterfly.
