When To Plant Lettuce In Brisbane
A few years ago when I lived in Toowoomba I came across a guy in the awesome Toowoomba Organic Gardens who had the most jam-packed plot filled with all types of lettuces and leafy greens. I stopped to ask him how he got into growing his own veggies and his answer really shocked me.
He said he worked for a local operation that provides supermarkets with lettuces and other vegetables…and that in his day job he had to wear a hazmat suit and mask because the company sprayed the produce with so many chemicals. What a nightmare.
I’ve always grown my own lettuce since having my own veggie patch, but you can bet that my resolve to keep growing it became a lot stronger after that conversation. The great thing about lettuce is that it can work for most seasons in Brisbane. I personally think the best time to plant lettuce in Brisbane is in autumn and in spring when the weather is a little milder.
