When To Grow Carrots In Sydney

When to grow carrots in Sydney? I plant seeds in March or April

When To Grow Carrots In Sydney | Backyard Edition

Carrots, like lots of root vegetables, like cooler weather. So if you are wondering when to grow carrots in Sydney, I recommend over autumn and winter.

I persuaded my brother Fergus who lives in the Eastern Suburbs of Brisbane to have a go at growing more vegetables this year for food security reasons. He planted carrot seeds in April once the weather cooled down a little and the fully grown carrots arrived just recently in mid-August.

In my experience, organic carrots don’t usually end up looking like the “perfect” identical carrots you see in the shops — they are way more varied, tiny and gnarled, but I’m very behind them at home because they taste SO much better.

And if you’re wondering how to tell when they’re ready to eat: the carrots slightly pop up above the ground, showing you they’re ready to be picked! I show exactly how I plant my own carrot seedlings here.

My brother Fergus’ garden in Sydney and the very first carrots he grew this year (above)!

Homegrown carrots look smaller and more gnarled than shop varieties…but taste 1 million times better which makes up for everything.
