Wondering what veggies to plant now in Brisbane? Basically all of them, including carrots!

I eagerly wait for March and April to come around each year because in Brisbane it’s the very best time of year to plant all my favourite vegetables. Most of the rest of the year is too hot, so the autumn weather is a portal in time to grow as much veg as I can.

If you hit autumn and are wondering what to plant now in Brisbane, get onto it quickly - this perfect time of year only comes around once! I’ve included 7 of the best veggies for you to plant now in Brisbane (if now is autumn!) Heathy eating is on the way…

Silverbeet, broccoli and tomatoes (above) are great veggies to plant now in Brisbane

7 Veggies To Plant Now In Brisbane | Autumn Edition

#1 Silverbeet: This and spinach make up a large bulk of my autumn planting. I really like the ruby red and rainbow chard varieties.

#2 Tomatoes: Traditionally, tomatoes are considered a summer fruit. Not so in sunny Brisbane! I plant all my cherry and heirloom tomatoes in March.

#3 Broccoli: I grow delicious homegrown broccoli every year and shed a tear when it gets hot again and broccoli season subsides. The only downside to broccoli is that it is a bigger plant, making it a little too big for a planter box or pot.

#4 Celery: Growing celery at home is a charm, especially as you can use it stalk by stalk, rather than have to use a whole bunch at once.

#5 Carrots: Cool weather is the time to grow root veggies like carrots in Brisbane. I grew them for the first time a few years ago and my dog Banjo ate a whole one… proving they taste amazing!

#6 Kale: Healthy veggies seem to be happiest in autumn weather and that includes kale. My favourite variety is the deep purple Cavolo Nero variety which I sauté and also use in soups.

#7 Spring Onion: Don’t let the word spring fool you, spring onions are a great veggie to plant in Brisbane in autumn.
