Success Story: The Speedy’s Bee Project

The Speedy clan know what they’re doing!

The first ever seed growers using Salisbury Grange seeds were my friends, the Speedy clan! #earlyadopters. And what a great first group, because even I couldn’t believe how flawlessly they completed my course The Bee Project, growing a tonne of bee-friendly flowers with no prior experience.

I must give Queen Bee, Caroline Speedy, her due for her amazing cooking skills: she made basil pesto and seafood curry with thai basil among many more things from her new garden. Yum! She was also the inspiration for a few other people deciding to have a go at growing at home. Seeing really is believing!

So is Speedy a prodigy? Obviously, but there are a few things I noticed that she really did right that made her so successful.

Who’s Garden Is This? Caroline Speedy and her little cherubs, Camilla 6, Violet 4 and Benny, 2, Tarragindi, Brisbane

Have You Planted Seeds Before? Never!

What Worked Best? The purple basil, zinnia and the marigolds and cosmos came into bloom later.

Speedy’s Tip #1 — observe what comes in. I’ve had a lot of hoverbees and a few select honeybees. So many butterflies and two kookaburras! They have been incredibly beautiful to watch!

Speedy’s Tip #2 — ask someone to water your plants if you go away. We went on a few weeks holidays where neighbours were recruited to help out.

Speedy’s Tip #3 — stick with it through the boring bits. The easiest part was planting the seeds and watching them grow. The hardest part was maintaining my stamina to water as they got bigger and the sheen started to dull off the process just a little. But then the buds came along and forced me back in to excitement!

Amazing effort Speedy’s!
