Zinnia Guide | When To Plant + Where To Buy In Australia

If the zinnia is at the top of your flower growing wish list, read on!

Zinnias are one of the most colourful and interesting flowers that can easily be grown at home. I’ve been growing zinnias in my backyard and balcony in Brisbane for almost a decade and have learned a lot!

I’ve put together this zinnia guide below with information on the best time to grow zinnias and where to buy cool varieties for anyone wanting to get started!

When to plant zinnias? Summer!

When To Plant Zinnias In Australia

Zinnia is always a flower I recommend growing in Australia because it is one of the few flowers that can really stand up and thrive in full-on Australian heat. For that reason, the best time to plant zinnia in Australia is in spring and summer. I’ve tried planting it before in autumn and the flowers did not like it at all!

And if you are looking for other summer flowers to complement zinnias, you may like my Seasonal Calendar below which includes a number of other options for the season.
