7 Fun Dahlias Varieties To Grow In Brisbane

Looking for dahlia variety ideas in Brisbane? Classic Cafe Au Lait is always a winner…if you can get it.

I thought I would share some of the beautiful dahlia varieties I’ve grown over the years in Brisbane. Most dahlias grow well in Brisbane so any variety you find should be great, but my best recommendation is to buy from a seller from a similar climate. For example, I would favour buying a dahlia from someone in Queensland over someone in Tasmania where I can because it will help the plant acclimatise.

I’ve experimented with lots of different colours and varieties from the much coveted Cafe Au Lait which did not disappoint to the very prolific Astrid Coorabell that grew well over my head height and produced so many stunning flowers across one season. Check out some of the fun dahlia varieties to grow in Brisbane, as grown in my backyard!

#1 Tom’s Dahlia on the left in this bunch is a stunning deep red with layers and layers of petals.

#2 Astrid Coorabell is a white dahlia with flecks of lavender throughout and it is so prolific it can grow over 2 metres tall.

#3 The Orange Pompon on the left is a fun dahlia variety in a small golf ball shape.

#4 Cafe Au Lait is a cult favourite for a reason with it’s incredible latte colour and huge dinner plate sized flower.

#5 African Peach at the top of the bunch is a pretty pink and peach winner that consistently grow lots of flowers in a season.

#6 Clara Thora is a blush pink bloom that makes for a great cut flower bunch. Barbie would love this colour!

#7 White Decorative on the bottom of this bunch, open up into a wonderfully fluffy dahlia with a centre of bright yellow.
