A Timeline Of Growing Cafe Au Lait Dahlias

One of the very first dahlias I ever grew at home was this Cafe Au Lait beauty!

Cafe Au Lait dahlias are one of the most coveted dahlia varieties the world over for very obvious reasons - their level of beauty is unbelievable! Not only do they have exquisite layers of petals, but their blush latte colour and enormous dinner plate flower size make them completely show stopping.

Due to their popularity, Cafe Au Lait dahlias can be tricky to get your hands on, so one of the very best ways to get your own is to grow them yourself. The Cafe Au Lait was actually one of the very first dahlias I successfully grew from a tuber, so I have included a timeline of the growing stages below for any other newbies who might like to see if their dahlia growing is on track.

And if you are hoping to buy your own tubers this summer you might like my Dahlia Sellers List below which has over 50 sellers across Australia on the list (and many sell Cafe Au Lait dahlias).

Where it all starts - with a potato-like dahlias tuber

This was my dahlia patch after 2 months - all leaves and stems with a few small buds starting to finally form

For such a large and beautiful flower, this tiny bud is the first sign that the Cafe Au Lait is on the way

After a few more weeks’ the bud starts to crack open and you can glimpse the petals inside

About 3-4 months on from planting the tuber, the masterpiece arrives!

Enjoying my Cafe Au Lait dahlia success!
