When To Plant Tulips In Australia

Wondering when to plant tulips in Australia? Autumn is the time! Image credit: The Farmhouse Flower Farm

Tulips are a flower I recommend growing in cooler parts of Australia because it needs a period of cold to help it grow. I tried growing them in Brisbane and they had super short stems because it got too hot too quickly! The best time to plant tulips in the cooler parts of the country is around Mother’s Day in May. Then the pretty blooms shoot up at the start of spring.

There are lots of awesome varieties and colours of tulips, but I love the Santander variety that are light pink and are fringed, as well as the moody dark purple Ronaldo variety.

And if you are looking for other autumn flowers to complement tulips, you may like my Seasonal Calendar below which includes a number of other options for the season. Happy planting!
