When To Plant Peonies In Australia

Wondering when to plant peonies in Australia, like these beautiful Coral Charm peonies? The answer is in autumn! Image credit: OC Wholesale Flowers

Before I go into when to plant peonies in Australia, I have to mention that peonies only grow in cooler parts of Australia, such as Victoria, Tasmania and Stanthorpe. Sad, but true.

If you happen to be lucky enough to live in one of these cooler areas, the best time to plant peonies (both the ones you buy as a bare-root rhizomes and those sold as potted plants) is autumn. Peonies then come into amazing bloom in October, November and December. It’s a short season, but worth it!

There are lots of incredible varieties and colours of peonies, but I love the bright pink Coral Charm variety pictured above, as well as the dreamy white Duchesse De Nemour variety. So stunning!

And if you are looking for other flowers to complement your peonies, you may like my Seasonal Calendar below which includes a number of other options.
