Possum Netting From Bunnings Saved My Seedlings

Covering over 200 flower seedlings with possum netting from Bunnings

I’ve been growing a veggie patch for 10 years in Brisbane and have heard countless people tell me that possums ate all their veggies. But I’d never experienced it in all that time. I must be the lucky exception?! Well that all changed this year when all my luck seemed to catch up with me and I had countless homegrown seedlings nibbled down to nothing time and again. Argh!

What was the lesson? Really it was just a simple one…cover my seedlings! And the unlikely saviour has been $7 possum netting from Bunnings. Marketed as bird netting, this inexpensive product has worked wonders in my garden. There are multiple ways to use the netting to cover seedlings and veggies, but I simply hold it up with garden stakes to cover seedlings that I so not want to lose. You can water over the netting, but I usually pull it off during the day and recover at night.
